Andrés Pichon Riviere was elected as the general director of IECS for the period 2026-2030

The Institute for Clinical and Health Effectiveness (IECS) designated the Prof. Dr. Andrés Pichon Riviere as general director for a new four-year termHis appointment continues a management style focused on institutional strengthening and positioning the Institute as a regional and international benchmark.

Founded in 2002 by a group of leading healthcare professionals in Argentina, IECS began its journey with the Master's Degree in Clinical Effectiveness and, over time, expanded its scope to become a multifaceted institution with a mission: to contribute to improving global health by generating and promoting the application of the best scientific evidenceToday it brings together more than one hundred professionals working on research, training and technical cooperation projects in more than 40 countries.

In this context of growth, the institution recently advanced in a process of strengthening its governance structure, with the objective of consolidating clear rules, well-defined institutional roles and mechanisms that allow supporting the future development of the IECS.

The new governance structure establishes clearer frameworks for institutional discussion and decision-making, promoting a constructive deliberative process aimed at strengthening the organization.

In addition to Pichon Riviere as general director, the IECS board of directors is made up of the following members: Dr. Fernando Althabe, senior researcher at the Department of Maternal and Child Health Research; Prof. Dr. Federico Augustovski, Director of the Department of Health Technology Assessment and Health Economics; Dr. Mabel Berrueta, Director of the Department of Research in Maternal and Child Health and Coordinator of the Statistics, Data Management and Information Systems Unit; Dr. Ezequiel García Elorrio, Director of the Department of Quality, Patient Safety and Clinical Management; Dr. Vilma Irazola, Director of the Department of Research in Chronic Diseases; Mag. Grisel Jordán, Director of the Department of Support and Operational Management; Dr. Adolfo Rubinstein, director of the Center for Implementation and Innovation in Health Policies (CIIPS); and Dr. Fernando Rubinstein, senior researcher at IECS.

The appointment of Pichon Riviere reaffirms confidence in his management. His leadership will allow for a deeper development of the institution's strategic lines, aimed at strengthening evidence generation and improving health decision-making in Argentina, Latin America, and the world.

About Prof. Dr. Pichon Riviere

Professor Dr. Andrés Pichon Riviere is a physician who graduated with honors, holds a Master's degree in Clinical Epidemiology from Harvard University, and a PhD in Public Health from the University of Buenos Aires (UBA). He currently serves as Director General of the Institute for Clinical and Health Effectiveness (IECS) and the PAHO/WHO Collaborating Center for Health Technology Assessment (HTA). He is also a Full Professor of Public Health at UBA and a researcher at CONICET (National Scientific and Technical Research Council).

Internationally, he has extensive experience coordinating research projects and providing implementation training, collaborating with government agencies and academic and private institutions in more than 14 Latin American countries. His leadership in global networks led him to serve as Vice President of INAHTA (2010-2014) and as a member of the board of directors of HTAi (2012-2015).

For her career, in 2008 she received the Global Health Leadership Award, a global health leadership award given by the Global Health Research Initiative, in recognition of her career in the field of public health and she has published more than 100 scientific articles in international peer-reviewed journals.
