Starting next December 10, in Argentina it will not be possible to manufacture or market foods that contain trans fats of industrial origin*. This prohibition, arising from the implementation of a modification of the Argentine Food Code, will annually prevent up to 1500 deaths associated with coronary heart disease, 2880 acute myocardial infarctions and more than 1000 unstable angina, totaling more than 5.000 acute coronary events. This translates into annual savings for the Argentine health system (public, private and social works) that can reach up to 100 million dollars associated with the treatment and monitoring of these cases.
