More than 100 professionals from 17 countries participated in a webinar on high blood pressure in Latin America.

El Thursday July 3 out of 2025 the webinar was held “Implementation of strategies to improve the control of high blood pressure in Latin America”, a free, open virtual event aimed at health professionals, researchers, and members of civil society interested in chronic diseases and public health.

The event was followed by 111 people de 17 countries, among them: Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Spain, Great Britain, Mexico, Peru, Portugal, Paraguay, Uruguay, Venezuela and El Salvador.

The activity was developed within the framework of the COLMA Project, an international initiative led by the Department of Chronic Disease Research of the Institute of Clinical and Health Effectiveness (IECS), in conjunction with the Southern Scientific University (Peru), the King's College London (United Kingdom), the University of Edinburgh (Scotland) and the University of Limerick (Ireland). The project is funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR, UK).

During the meeting, key aspects of high blood pressure in Latin America were addressed, including the current situation in the region, the design of interventions adapted to community contexts and the pillars of the HEARTS Initiative, promoted by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO).

The webinar is part of the training component of the COLMA Project, which includes ongoing training and dissemination activities, such as this series of virtual seminars. COLMA aims to design and implement a multi-component intervention to improve the joint management of hypertension, diabetes, and depression in vulnerable populations in Peru and Argentina.
