New consortium on health costs and budget impact

Buenos Aires October 20, 2017 – The Department of Health Technology Assessment and Health Economics launched a new service that focuses on estimates of health costs in Argentina. The main objective of the AIP-BCS Consortium is the development and maintenance of a Health Cost Base (BCS) with estimates of each of the 3 health sub-systems of Argentina (Public – Private – Social Security) to promote the development and the use of costing studies, Health Economic Evaluations (EE) and Budget Impact Analysis (AIP).

Partners of this consortium can access the following services:

1) Health Cost Base (BCS).

The BCS is made up of: the Unitary Cost Base (BCU) that includes costs of medical consultations, days of hospitalization, laboratory tests and medical practices; and the Event Cost Base (ECB), which includes aggregate costs of health events (such as myocardial infarctions, strokes, lung cancer treatment, etc.)

2) CoMAxI Tool (Currency Converter and Inflation Adjustment)

This web application allows you to consider costs from different years and geographic regions, and translate them to the local context in Argentine pesos at current values.

 3) Budget Impact Analysis (AIP):

– Full access to the AIP web model.

– Advice on AIP estimates with the IECS Health Economics team. Members can request up to two hours of technical advice per year free of charge.

4) Participation in two annual training workshops for professionals from member companies on:

– BCS (BCU and BCE) and its updates.

– Theoretical AIP.

– Use of the IECS AIP model and its updates.

– Relevant topics on health costs and AIP in Argentina.

 5) Partial scholarships of 20% for IECS distance courses.

 6) Preferential rates for cost estimation studies, economic evaluations or others.

It is worth noting that the aforementioned tools (BCS, CoMAxI and AIP) are available exclusively to members participating in the consortium. However, given the academic nature of the IECS, they are also available for academic and research purposes, so that they can be a solid reference for health cost studies, AIP and Cost-Effectiveness Analysis carried out in Argentina. .
