Objectives

Analyze in depth the processes and behaviors around symptom management through a comparative study of multiple cases, to identify barriers in these processes for symptom management and quality of life of pediatric patients with advanced cancer, expand the model theoretical and define the basic components of the PediQUEST Champions intervention.

Summary

Pediatric Quality of Life and Evaluation of Symptoms Technology (PediQUEST) is a novel computerized data tracking system developed at Harvard University's Dana-Farber Children's Cancer Center (DFCHCC) that tracks reported symptoms and quality of life. by pediatric patients -children and adolescents- and their parents, prepares reports and generates email alerts to send this information to the health team and families. Every time a child reports uncomfortable symptoms through this web system, the PediQUEST Champions intervention adds the work of a professional specialized in Pediatric Palliative Care with the aim of improving the effectiveness of the intervention of the health team and families to manage symptoms. that cause intense discomfort. The incorporation of this specialist (the PQ Champion) seeks to improve access to proactive, high-quality care, and to reduce the symptoms that cause pain and discomfort in children with cancer. This formative research aims to advance the intervention development process by carrying out a comparative study of multiple cases in order to explore and analyze its specific components, such as the activities to be carried out and the modes of interaction to be promoted with the PQ Champion health team.
