Education in Palliative and End of Life Care (EPEC)- Pediatrics LatinoAmérica
Objectives
Improve the provision of palliative care to patients with life-threatening illnesses (LEA) through training of trainers.
Disseminate basic content of pediatric palliative care among health professionals of all specialties and disciplines who care for children with VAE.
Summary
Given the need for all children with life-threatening illnesses (LEA) to receive the primary Palliative Care they need, this project aims to train trainers who can disseminate and promote desirable palliative care practices among the members of their institution, area programmatic and/or region. The “EPEC-Pediatrico LatinoAmérica” project is a Spanish version of the “EPEC (for its acronym in English Education in Palliative and End of LifeCare)–Pediatrics developed by Drs. Stefan Friedrichsdorf and Joanne Wolfe, world leaders on the subject. Adapted to the Latin American context by an “Editing Committee” made up of professionals from the region under the direction of Dr. Verónica Dussel, the EPEC-Pediatric Latin America Trainer Training course was designed, composed of a virtual component and an in-person component. In September 2015, a pilot version of the course was carried out in Montevideo, Uruguay, within the framework of the Congress of the Uruguayan Society of Pediatrics, where 94 health professionals from different disciplines from Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil, Ecuador attended. and Mexico. It has been a very significant learning event that motivates us to continue building the path of disseminating quality Pediatric Palliative Care in our region.
