Objective
To evaluate the effectiveness of a comprehensive hypertension management program to improve blood pressure control in hypertensive patients, compared to usual care in the Guatemalan public health system.
Summary
This research study is carried out within the framework of the Inclusive Health Model (MIS) of the Ministry of Public Health and Social Assistance of Guatemala. The intervention includes training and feedback for health personnel, counseling for patients and their families, and self-monitoring of blood pressure. 16 health districts will be randomly assigned to the proposed intervention and 16 health districts to usual care. The study will include a total of 1.760 patients and will last 18 months. This study seeks to adapt the design and implementation of an intervention that has been proven successful in a randomized clinical trial in clusters carried out in Argentina (A comprehensive approach for the prevention and control of hypertension in Argentina) in the context of the system. public health of Guatemala.
