Epidemiological and economic impact model of PAHO prioritized programs – Phase 2
April – December 2023
Period: July to December 2025
Financier: Pan American Health Organization (PAHO)
Objective: Phase 2 of the project seeks to expand and strengthen the PIA-Tool developed by PAHO/WHO to estimate the epidemiological and economic impact of key interventions in the Latin American and Caribbean region. This phase builds on the work initiated in the Phase 1, improving the platform's usability, incorporating new interventions and expanding its geographic reach.
The main objectives include optimizing the design and user experience; standardizing models to ensure comparability between interventions; and adding two new areas of analysis: reducing vertical transmission of syphilis through rapid testing and improving timely tuberculosis diagnosis with NAAT technologies. Additionally, three new countries—Jamaica, Uruguay, and the Dominican Republic—are being incorporated, bringing the total number of countries on the platform to 11.
Phase 2 also advances the sustainability of the PIA-Tool by developing mechanisms that facilitate countries' autonomous data updating and by creating accessible technical documentation that promotes its use and customization by local teams.
