Maternal and neonatal health record
2011
Period: 2011
To address the paucity of population-based pregnancy data, the Global Network established a population-based Vital Registration System in 2009 to document fetal, neonatal, and maternal mortality, called the Maternal and Neonatal Health Registry Study. In addition to tracking outcomes over time to better understand mortality in these areas and plan interventions, the data can be used to develop public health policies.

Summary
The main objective of the study is to quantify and understand trends in perinatal outcomes in low-resource geographic areas over time, with the intention of providing population-based statistics on fetal, neonatal, and maternal mortality. By obtaining a vital registration system, maternal and neonatal mortality will be documented, which will allow studies to be designed to evaluate the main causes of these adverse outcomes and disseminate the results to be used as a basis for modifying health policies.
Type of research: Observational, Prospective, population-based.
Inclusion criteria:
At the community level:
It must be appropriate for long-term recording of data and for the conduct of the study.
At least 300 births per year.
At the women's level:
Women who give birth in one of the included communities.
Women who reside in one of the included communities but who are transferred to another place at the time of childbirth.
Exclusion criteria
At the women's level:
Women who do not provide consent to include their data in the study
Duration of the study: At least 5 years.
Location: This is a study designed by researchers from the Global Network for Research in Women's and Children's Health, made up of 10 consortia each made up of institutions from developing countries in Latin America, Africa and Asia and one institution from the United States. Joined. Site 1 of the Global Network is made up of the IECS (Argentina) and Tulane University, USA. In Argentina, 6 geographic areas were selected (3 in the Province of Corrientes and 3 in Santiago del Estero) appropriate for data collection and conduct of the study.
Ethical evaluation: The study was approved by the Institutional Review Board (IRB) of Tulane University, USA, and by the Ethics Committee of CEMIC, Buenos Ares, Argentina.
Objectives
Quantify and understand trends in perinatal outcomes in low-resource geographic areas over time, with the intention of providing population-based statistics on fetal, neonatal, and maternal mortality.
Finance
National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD), United States.
