Obstetrician (UBA) and Master's in Epidemiology from the University of London. He currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors and principal investigator in the Maternal and Child Health Research Department of the IECS, and as a medical officer in the Maternal and Perinatal Health Unit of the HRP/SHR/WHO. He is also a senior researcher at the National Scientific and Technical Research Council (CONICET) and an associate professor at Tulane University, New Orleans (USA).

Her main expertise is the design and conduct of multi-centre and multinational randomised trials to evaluate interventions aimed at improving the health of women and children as well as the quality of health care provided to both. She has a prolific scientific output, with more than 200 indexed publications.

Dr. Althabe also has extensive experience in teaching research methods and evidence-based clinical practice. He has coordinated short courses in research methods for more than 500 health professionals from 12 Latin American countries.

He is also the coordinator of the UBA Doctoral Program in Health Implementation Sciences for health professionals, funded by the Fogarty International Center.
