Jose Belizan

President

José Belizán is an obstetrician, doctor in Reproductive Biology from the University of Salvador (Buenos Aires) and doctor in Medicine from the National University of Rosario (UNR).
He currently works as a principal investigator in the IECS Maternal and Child Health Research Department. He is also a senior researcher at the National Scientific and Technical Research Council of Argentina (CONICET) and an associate professor at Tulane University, in New Orleans, and the University of North Carolina, in Chapel Hill, both in the United States.
He has a prolific scientific production, with more than 270 publications indexed in Pubmed, The New England Journal of Medicine, Lancet, British Medical Journal, JAMA, among others. In addition, he has been part of the editorial board of more than 16 scientific journals and has been a reviewer in more than 66 instances between scientific journals and international organizations.
He was director of the Latin American Center for Perinatology and Human Development (CLAP) of PAHO/WHO. He directed the Fogarty/NIH Center in Argentina and in 2023 was awarded Canada's 2023 Gairdner International Award in the Global Health category.
